US authorities have charged a California man in an alleged scheme worth roughly $300 million that routed Nvidia AI servers to China through Malaysia and Singapore, TradingView reported.
The case centers on accusations that Nvidia-based AI server hardware reached Chinese buyers despite Washington's export controls, which restrict sales of advanced AI accelerators and associated server systems to China. Prosecutors allege the shipments passed through intermediary countries in Southeast Asia to obscure their final destination.
What does the charge signal for export enforcement?
The $300 million figure attached to the alleged scheme makes it one of the larger publicly disclosed enforcement actions involving AI server hardware. Export controls on advanced chips and the servers built around them have made compliance a central issue for Nvidia, its distributors, and system integrators since the US tightened restrictions on China-bound AI hardware.
Routing through Malaysia and Singapore — both major electronics logistics and assembly hubs — points to the persistent difficulty regulators face in tracking finished AI servers, as opposed to bare chips, once they enter third-country supply chains.
Nvidia itself has not been accused of wrongdoing in connection with the reported charge. The case targets the alleged intermediary and his network.
The charge signals that US prosecutors are pursuing individual actors in alleged transshipment schemes. Companies across the AI hardware supply chain can expect continued scrutiny of China-bound shipments routed through Southeast Asian hubs.
