FPT Corporation has begun trial operations at Vietnam's first Vietnamese-owned semiconductor chip testing and packaging plant, a six-line facility in Bac Ninh designed for a maximum output of 300 million chips per year.

The FPT Semiconductor Chip Testing and Packaging Plant, operated through FPT Analysis Technologies Joint Stock Company, entered Phase 1 trial operations on November 3, 2026. The plant covers 1,600 square meters in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park, Bac Ninh Province. During the trial phase it will test chip functionality, quality and reliability for domestic and international semiconductor businesses.

The company said the plant will contribute to developing Vietnam's chip testing capabilities, "promoting connectivity across the semiconductor chip value chain and advancing the national direction of mastering core and sovereign technologies, enabling Vietnam to participate more deeply in the global supply chain."

What equipment and standards does the plant run?

The facility pairs Automated Test Equipment with Handler systems. The ATE tester checks chip functionality and evaluates operational performance. The Handler positions chips for testing and sorts them by pass or fail results.

The testing area operates in a Class 10,000 cleanroom, rated ISO Class 7, to control dust and environmental factors. Management standards include:

  • ISO 9001 for quality management
  • ISO 14001 for environmental management
  • ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety
  • ISO 14644 cleanroom environmental controls
  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls and industry-standard reliability test methods per product

FPT engineers develop test programs tailored to each chip type. Each product line carries different functions and technical requirements, so engineers must identify test parameters, set testing conditions and evaluate results. FPT is also building an AI-powered platform to automate test program development, spanning data and technical requirement standardization, test configuration design and result evaluation.

How does the plant test reliability?

Beyond functional testing, the plant evaluates durability and reliability. Engineers expose chips to high-temperature conditions, continuous temperature variations and combined temperature and humidity stress to identify failure risks. ESD control measures reduce damage risk when personnel or equipment contact components. Results determine whether products meet usage requirements and how reliable they are.

The plant expects its first chip testing order from a South Korean partner, which would mark the start of FPT's chip testing service operations. The reliability testing area will next be developed to meet international standards for testing and calibration laboratory competence, a requirement of domestic and international customers.

Who staffs the facility?

FPT assembled a team of experienced chip testing and packaging experts and engineers, including specialists with years of work at Intel's Vietnam plant. The team establishes technical procedures, operates equipment and trains personnel.

The plant will double as a training ground. In its initial phase, FPT will partner with FPT Polytechnic College on a pilot program that puts students on live chip testing production lines from December 2026. Students will handle actual equipment and operational processes.

What comes next for FPT in semiconductors?

FPT plans to expand advanced testing capabilities and develop chip packaging technologies, the next step in its semiconductor development plan. The corporation claims more than 10 years in the semiconductor industry and aims to build a full chip packaging and testing ecosystem, raise its technological capabilities and widen its service offering to customers at home and abroad.

Those efforts align with Vietnam's stated goal of participating more deeply in the global semiconductor value chain and supporting the domestic industry's development toward 2030 and beyond.
