Future, the UK-based media conglomerate that owns Android Central, laid off the publication's editorial staff yesterday, yet the site will keep running, a Future spokesperson confirmed to The Verge.

The scale of the cuts is concrete. Four of the six people listed on Android Central's staff page posted publicly about the layoffs yesterday: Shruti Shekar, Derrek Lee, Harish Jonnalagadda, and Nicholas Sutrich. Namerah Saud Fatmi, a former senior editor, updated her LinkedIn to indicate her tenure at the site had ended. Lee, who served as managing editor, and Sutrich both confirmed that all remaining staff were laid off.

The staffers who lost their jobs received no clarity on the brand's fate. According to their accounts, they were not told whether Android Central would shut down. Future's statement to The Verge, issued today, fills that gap only partially: the site "will continue" publishing. The company offered no details on who will produce the content going forward, whether freelance contributors will replace the laid-off editors, or how the decision fits into Future's broader portfolio strategy.

The publication itself remains accessible, and Future has not announced any date for winding it down.

For Android Central's audience — largely Android device buyers tracking phones, wearables, and platform updates — the question is what the site's output looks like with an emptied newsroom. Lee, as managing editor, ran day-to-day editorial operations, and Sutrich was among the site's most prolific reviewers. Losing the entire listed staff in a single day leaves the continuation pledge without an obvious editorial team behind it.

Future has not commented beyond confirming the site will continue.
