Nothing Sets December Target for Undisclosed AI-Native Device
Nothing CEO Carl Pei says the startup will ship its first AI-native product in December, but the device remains undefined beyond his claims that it has no new screen and could not have been an app.

Nothing plans to ship its first “AI-native product” in December, CEO Carl Pei said on Wednesday, but the smartphone startup still has not identified the device or set a firm release date.
The announcement offers a shipping month without a product reveal. Nothing, the company behind the distinctive Nothing Phone, posted the timing on X, where Pei described the upcoming item as its first AI-native product and a “productivity tool.” December therefore functions as a company-stated target, not a complete commercial schedule.
“It’s a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product. It has no new screen, and it couldn’t have been an app,” Pei wrote.
Those two limits narrow the category without defining it. Saying the device has no new screen and could not have been an app leaves open what it does, whether it belongs to an established wearable category, and how users would interact with it. Pei’s announcement did not supply those answers.
The wording shifts the comparison from software features toward dedicated hardware. A product that “couldn’t have been an app” implies more than an AI feature added to the Nothing Phone, while the lack of a new screen leaves the interaction method unresolved.
Pei has teased an AI-first device for some time; Wednesday’s post adds a month but not a final form factor.
What has Pei said about the December product?
The announcement supports a short, tightly bounded list:
- Nothing’s first AI-native product will ship in December, according to Pei’s Wednesday post on X.
- Pei calls the device a “productivity tool” with the personality and care he says define Nothing products.
- It has no new screen, and Pei said it “couldn’t have been an app.”
- No exact release date accompanies the December shipping target.
That list establishes timing and broad positioning, but not a model name, technical specification, price, or shipment forecast. The post offers no basis yet for estimating sales or comparing the product commercially with other AI devices.
How do smart glasses and earbuds fit?
Nothing has separately said it plans to release a pair of AI-linked smart glasses, as well as earbuds with AI integrations. Those statements put at least three hardware concepts on Nothing’s public roadmap: the unidentified December product, one pair of smart glasses, and an earbuds offering. Pei’s wording does not connect the December item to either wearable category.
“The whole industry is hunting for its iPhone moment: the pendant, the pin, the glasses, the companion, some magical consumer device that makes AI part of everyone’s life,” Pei wrote. “I admire the boldness, but I read this moment differently.”
The passage downplays any direct link to the wearable categories Pei named, without ruling them out. His separate comments confirm the glasses and earbuds plans, but not the identity of the December device.
What does December tell customers?
For buyers, December is the only actionable date in the announcement, and it is still a target rather than a firm launch date. The expectation is that more will be known soon, but Pei gave no date for that disclosure.
The post does not tell buyers which of the categories Pei named, if any, Nothing has selected. Nor does it show how the tool differs from the smart glasses and AI-integrated earbuds on the roadmap.
The commercial test arrives with the December launch. If Nothing holds that target, its ability to distinguish the product from the pendant, pin, glasses and companion devices Pei cited will determine whether the company has claimed a distinct place in consumer AI hardware.
