NX Group has signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to develop semiconductor logistics infrastructure in India, according to an announcement carried by Yahoo Finance Singapore.

The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between the Japanese logistics group and India's lead semiconductor policy body, which operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. ISM manages the country's incentive programs aimed at building a domestic chip manufacturing and design ecosystem, including the $10 billion India Semiconductor Mission fund approved to subsidize fab construction, packaging plants, and design centers.

The agreement places NX Group, the logistics arm spun off from Nippon Express Holdings, at the edge of India's most consequential industrial policy push. India has committed public capital to at least four semiconductor projects to date, including the Tata Electronics–Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) joint fab in Dholera, Gujarat, and assembly and test facilities from Micron in Sanand and CG Power with Renesas in Sanand. A functioning logistics layer — temperature-controlled transport, clean handling, and customs coordination for wafers, equipment, and finished devices — remains a prerequisite for those plants to operate at commercial scale.

Semiconductor logistics carries requirements well beyond standard freight. Wafers and photomasks demand shock-minimized, contamination-controlled movement; lithography equipment and other fab tooling require specialized rigging and project cargo handling; and time-sensitive deliveries of production materials directly affect fab utilization. By signing with ISM directly, NX Group positions itself as an infrastructure partner to the mission itself rather than bidding project by project.

For NX Group, the memorandum extends a footprint in a market where electronics manufacturing incentives have pulled global suppliers toward India. For India, the deal addresses a gap its chip strategy has historically underweighted: even with fabs under construction, the country lacks the mature specialized logistics networks that Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan built alongside their semiconductor industries over decades.

The signing does not by itself commit capital, capacity, or a timeline. As a memorandum of understanding, it signals intent to cooperate on building out semiconductor-grade logistics infrastructure, with specific projects, investments, and service scope expected to follow in subsequent agreements.

If the cooperation produces concrete facilities and service commitments, it would strengthen the operational case for India's fab pipeline — and give NX Group an early anchor in one of the few semiconductor markets still in the build-out phase.
