Rapidus has unveiled "Rapidus CORE," a new global ecosystem framework intended to support the development and mass production of cutting-edge semiconductors. The Japanese advanced-node venture announced the initiative as the organizing structure for partnerships spanning design, manufacturing and everything between them.

As its first concrete step, Rapidus is forming Design Solution Associates, a program to help customers move from chip design into volume production on the company's leading-edge process technology. The company positions the new framework as the mechanism through which global chip designers gain a route to Rapidus fabrication capacity.

What is Rapidus CORE?

According to the company's announcement, Rapidus CORE is a framework rather than a single product or service. Its purpose is to coordinate the ecosystem partners — design houses, tool providers, IP suppliers and others — that a new foundry needs around it before it can take customer silicon into mass production.

The structure matters because Rapidus is building a foundry business from scratch. A leading-edge logic maker cannot sell wafers on process capability alone; customers need certified design flows, verified IP, and packaging and test partners tied into the manufacturing line. Rapidus CORE is the company's answer to that coordination problem.

Why Design Solution Associates comes first

The first phase under the framework — Design Solution Associates — targets the earliest bottleneck in any foundry relationship: getting designs started and manufacturable. The program is meant to help customers develop chips that will move into mass production on Rapidus processes, connecting them with design-support resources as the company ramps its fabrication capability.

The sequencing signals where Rapidus sees commercial risk. Design activity must begin well before volume wafers ship, and a credible design-in pipeline is the precondition for the foundry to win customers at all.

The competitive context

Rapidus enters a segment where established foundries already run mature ecosystem programs around their most advanced nodes. A challenger without a comparable partner network would face long design-cycle delays even if its process technology proved competitive. By formalizing its ecosystem now, ahead of full production readiness, Rapidus is trying to shorten the distance between a customer's design start and its first silicon on a Rapidus line.

The company said the framework will support development and mass production of cutting-edge semiconductors, with Design Solution Associates as the first of what it frames as phased ecosystem building.

How quickly Rapidus signs up design partners under the new framework — and which customers commit design resources to its nodes — will shape the credibility of its foundry pitch as its fab capability comes online.
