Seeking Alpha Analysts See a Possible Top in TSMC Shares After Q3
A Seeking Alpha review of TSMC's Q3 results argues the strong report may mark a top for the stock, with AI demand the key swing factor ahead.

TSMC has delivered its third-quarter results, and a new Seeking Alpha review argues the report may mark a top for the stock rather than the start of another leg higher.
The review, titled "TSMC Q3 Earnings Review: A Top May Be In View," examines the New York-listed shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE: TSM). Its central claim is direct: the best of the earnings cycle may already be priced in.
That is a contrarian position. TSMC remains the dominant producer of advanced logic chips. It supplies Apple, NVIDIA and most of the industry's leading designers. Demand for AI accelerators has filled its leading-edge capacity for years. The bear case therefore rests not on weak orders but on expectations that have grown too high.
Why would strong results signal a top?
The logic behind the review is familiar from prior foundry cycles. When a supplier runs at full utilization, reports record revenue and guides margins higher, the stock often peaks before the fundamentals do. Investors have already paid for the good news. Any hint of slower growth, pricing pressure or capex escalation then triggers a repricing.
TSMC's earnings have followed AI demand upward for several quarters. Each report has set a new baseline for expectations. The review suggests this quarter's numbers may represent that high-water mark.
The stakes are large for the whole supply chain. TSMC builds the majority of the world's most advanced chips. A turn in its stock often precedes a turn in sentiment across chip designers, equipment makers and advanced packaging suppliers.
What does this mean for investors?
The review does not argue that TSMC's business is deteriorating. It argues that the share price has absorbed the upside. The distinction matters. A company can keep posting strong results while its stock flattens or falls, because valuation compresses even as earnings grow.
For holders, the question is whether remaining gains justify the risk of a cyclical peak. For buyers, the question is whether a better entry point arrives after expectations reset.
The geopolitical backdrop adds weight to the debate. TSMC's most advanced capacity sits on Taiwan, and Washington's export controls have reshaped who can buy which chips and where they can be made. The company is building fabs in Arizona, Japan and Germany to diversify production, but those plants raise capital spending and complicate the cost structure that long underpinned its margins.
How solid is the bear case?
It rests on one judgment: expectations have outrun even excellent execution. AI chip demand remains the swing factor. If accelerator orders keep accelerating, the top call will look premature. If hyperscaler spending pauses, the call will look prescient.
Skeptics of the top thesis point to TSMC's record of beating conservative forecasts. Bulls have been burned before by calls that the cycle has peaked. The foundry's pricing power at the most advanced nodes has so far survived every predicted limit.
The review's own framing is cautious. It says a top "may be" in view, not that one has arrived.
What comes next
Investors will watch fourth-quarter guidance, capex plans and commentary on AI demand for confirmation or rejection of the peak thesis. The next earnings report will show whether this quarter was a high-water mark or simply another step in a longer climb.
