Stifel Lifts ON Semiconductor Target to $80 on Design Wins

Stifel raised its price target on ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ON) to $80 from $75 on October 5, 2026, keeping a Hold rating on a stock that already trades at $84.89 after a 72% run over the past year.

The upgrade rests on concrete fundamentals rather than multiple expansion. Stifel says the inventory correction in ON's Industrial and Automotive segments is now complete, clearing the way for the company's design-win pipeline in artificial intelligence, data centers, electric vehicles and energy infrastructure to convert into revenue.

The bullish tilt matches broader sell-side momentum: 23 analysts have revised their earnings estimates upward for the upcoming period.

What does the raised target reflect?

Stifel's case breaks into three parts:

  • Segment recovery. Automotive and Industrial accounted for 75.1% of second-quarter 2026 sales, just under the company's long-term 80% target. With destocking finished, Stifel sees room for those core segments to regain weight.
  • Growth runway. The firm said ON can hit its target of 12% to 14% compound annual revenue growth over the longer term, supported by a diversified customer base across multiple end markets and a total addressable market projected to reach $213 billion by 2030.
  • Margin floor. Stifel credited ON's business transformation and streamlined operating costs with raising the margin floor in downturns. Second-quarter 2026 non-GAAP gross margin stood at 39.3%, with non-GAAP operating margin at 20.8%.

The Hold rating despite the higher target signals valuation discipline. At $84.89, the stock trades above Stifel's new $80 mark, and InvestingPro analysis places it near fair value.

How does the Synaptics deal fit in?

The target revision lands amid a restructured acquisition. ON Semiconductor amended its merger agreement with Synaptics and will now pay $123 per share in cash — roughly $5.7 billion — down from the $7 billion all-stock terms previously agreed.

The cheaper cash structure preserves balance-sheet flexibility while keeping ON on its diversification path into broader analog and mixed-signal markets.

Where do other analysts stand?

The Stifel move reverses its own earlier cut. The firm had reduced its target to $75 while citing margin concerns, before restoring $80 on the design-win thesis. The wider analyst spread remains wide:

  • Cantor Fitzgerald lowered its target to $90 on a revised valuation approach.
  • UBS reiterated Neutral at $95, saying ON's growth model aligns with its expectations.
  • Mizuho kept Outperform at $95, attributing the adjustment to lower peer multiples.

Those updates followed the company's recent Financial Analyst Day and Investor Day presentations.

The spread — from $80 at Stifel to $95 at UBS and Mizuho — frames the central question for the stock: whether the completed inventory correction and the AI, EV and energy-infrastructure design-win pipeline deliver fast enough to justify a price that has already outrun the most conservative target on the street.
