TSMC's Arizona Fab Passed 100 Million Apple Chips This Year

TSMC's Arizona factory has produced more than 100 million chips for Apple this year, according to The Apple Post — a milestone that puts hard volume numbers, for the first time at this scale, behind the US onshoring of advanced logic.

One hundred million chips. Not wafers, not a pilot line, not a ribbon-cutting photo op. That's the count of Apple-bound die that came out of the desert outside Phoenix in a single calendar year, and it changes how the conversation about American-made silicon gets scored.

What does the number actually tell us?

It tells us the fab has moved past the risky phase. Early in any new fab's life, yields wobble, tool ramps slip and output trickles. Crossing nine figures of shipped Apple parts means TSMC's Arizona operation — the company's first major advanced-node site outside Taiwan — is behaving like a production fab rather than a demonstration project.

It also tells us something about Apple's commitment. The Cupertino company wouldn't route more than 100 million chips through the site if the economics and the quality weren't holding up. Apple is famously ruthless about supply. If Phoenix couldn't deliver, those die would be coming from Taiwan instead.

The volume is large enough to matter commercially while still fitting inside Apple's total appetite. Apple ships hundreds of millions of devices a year, so Arizona is a meaningful slice of the stack rather than the whole pie — but it's a slice that now has a firm public number attached to it, which is rare in this business.

Why the location is the story

TSMC building in Arizona was never just about capacity. It was about geography, tariffs and the political pressure to move advanced manufacturing onto US soil after years of concentration in Taiwan. Every chip counted in that 100-million-plus tally is a data point in that argument.

For TSMC, the milestone validates the hardest part of its expansion playbook: transplanting its process discipline thousands of miles from Hsinchu. For Apple, it offers a US-sourced supply line for part of its silicon at a moment when customers, regulators and politicians all want to know where the components come from.

And for the broader supply chain — equipment vendors, materials suppliers, packaging partners watching from the sidelines — a fab that ships 100 million chips to the world's most valuable customer in a year is a signal to invest alongside it.

What comes next

The count will keep climbing. TSMC has committed to expanding its Arizona footprint, and Apple's demand isn't shrinking; the open question for 2025 and beyond is how quickly the Phoenix site's output grows from 100 million chips to something that rivals what Taiwan ships today. This year's number says the floor is solid. What the ceiling looks like is next year's story.
