A $249 mouse with a 3.1-inch, 720 x 720 touchscreen sitting directly beneath the user's hand is Arctic Fox Technologies' pitch to replace several desk peripherals at once. The device, announced under the name Super Mouse, is available for preorder on Kickstarter at a discounted $199 for backers, with delivery projected to begin in February 2027.

That date deserves skepticism. Crowdfunding campaigns slip routinely, and this one offers no exception to the pattern of optimistic timelines.

What does the touchscreen actually do?

The screen sits front and center, flanked by a pair of standard mouse buttons, a scroll wheel and two customizable "hyper keys." The centerpiece is what Arctic Fox calls a Control Panel: a grid of up to 16 shortcuts, macros or app launchers.

The display adapts to context. It shows editing and playback shortcuts when Adobe Premiere is open, and switches to relevant controls for other recognized applications. For unrecognized apps or idiosyncratic workflows, the company's Flow desktop app handles customization.

Beyond shortcuts, the feature list runs long:

  • Event and meeting reminders synced with Google Calendar
  • Voice-to-text processing performed locally on the mouse itself
  • Multiple user profiles
  • Focus timers and productivity tracking
  • A gyroscope for controlling slideshows or scrubbing video by moving the mouse

There is also typing. The screen offers a smartphone-style keyboard with swipe input, which means users who type faster on a phone than a physical keyboard may find a full-size keyboard redundant. The mouse can likewise stand in for a trackpad, macro pad or streaming controller.

How does it compare with rivals?

The price runs above earlier attempts to fuse mice and touchscreens. Turtle Beach's Command Series MC7, for comparison, carries a 2.25-inch narrow display along its side. The Super Mouse answers with a larger, square panel placed where the user's palm naturally rests.

Whether a screen under the hand survives daily palm pressure remains a fair question, and the boxy design suggests ergonomics took a back seat in development. Arctic Fox itself does not appear to claim otherwise.

What is missing?

Wireless operation. The Super Mouse draws all its power through a USB-C port, with no rechargeable battery inside. The peripheral stays tethered to the PC at all times — a curious omission in a device otherwise stuffed with sensors and local processing.

The local voice-to-text capability hints at meaningful onboard compute for a mouse. It also hints at a device that consumes more power than a wireless form factor would comfortably support, which may explain the tether.

Is the Kickstarter discount worth the wait?

Backers pay $199 against a $249 retail price, a $50 saving for a delivery estimate nearly two years out. The gamble is familiar to anyone who has backed hardware campaigns: the discount is real, and so is the delay risk.

The Super Mouse will compete against cheaper conventional macro pads and established peripherals when — or if — it ships in February 2027. Its fortunes will rest on whether a contextual touchscreen under the palm proves more useful than irritating.
