BofA Lifts TSMC Price Target Days Before Q3 Earnings
BofA raised its TSMC price target just before Q3 earnings, betting AI accelerator demand keeps filling the foundry's advanced nodes. Investors now watch revenue, margins and guidance.

Bank of America has raised its price target on TSMC (NYSE: TSM) ahead of the foundry's third-quarter earnings report, betting that the world's largest contract chipmaker will keep converting AI-driven demand into revenue.
The move, reported by TipRanks, lands days before TSMC discloses its July-September results. It signals that at least one major Wall Street house sees more upside in the stock than the market currently prices.
BofA isn't chasing a rebound. It's positioning ahead of the print. TSMC has spent 2024 as the linchpin of the AI hardware supply chain, fabricating the advanced-node silicon that Nvidia, AMD, Apple and a lengthening roster of AI accelerator designers can't get anywhere else at scale.
Why raise the target now?
The timing matters. Analysts typically adjust price targets right before earnings when their channel checks, supply-chain conversations or demand models point to results that will beat consensus.
For TSMC, the bull case rests on a few pillars:
- Sustained orders for leading-edge process nodes from AI accelerator customers
- Continued pricing power as capacity at advanced nodes stays tight
- A foundry market where no rival can match TSMC's yield and volume at the cutting edge
TipRanks' report on the BofA decision did not specify the new target figure or the prior one, but the direction is unambiguous: upward, and ahead of a quarterly report that investors will scrutinize for signs of whether AI demand is still compounding.
What should investors watch in the Q3 report?
The earnings release will answer several questions that have hung over the stock all year.
First, revenue. TSMC's quarterly top line has become the cleanest read on AI infrastructure spending anywhere in the semiconductor industry, because every major accelerator — whatever the brand on the box — passes through TSMC's fabs.
Second, margins. The foundry has been pushing pricing higher as advanced-node capacity stays booked. Whether that holds through the second half will shape the 2025 outlook.
Third, guidance. Management's fourth-quarter revenue forecast and any commentary on 2025 capital spending will tell the market how much capacity TSMC plans to add, and how confident it is that AI demand fills it.
The competitive backdrop
TSMC's position gives it unusual leverage for a manufacturer. Samsung Foundry and Intel Foundry Services both want the same advanced-node customers, but neither has matched TSMC's combination of yield, capacity and process maturity at the leading edge.
That gap is exactly why analysts keep upgrading the stock. When the most advanced chips in the world have effectively one manufacturer at scale, that manufacturer's earnings reports become a macro indicator for the entire AI trade.
Geopolitics adds a wrinkle. TSMC's most advanced capacity sits on Taiwan, a concentration that keeps customers and governments pushing for diversification — including the fabs TSMC is building in Arizona. For now, though, that hasn't dented the core commercial picture: demand still exceeds supply at the nodes that matter most.
What comes next
The Q3 report will either validate BofA's more bullish stance or expose it as premature. If AI accelerator orders keep building and pricing holds, the raised target will look conservative. If demand shows any wobble, the market will quickly reprice the entire AI supply chain — and TSMC's numbers will be the first place it looks.
