Chinese semiconductor companies reported strong earnings for the first nine months of the year, with artificial intelligence demand driving growth across the sector, according to a Global Times report.
The results cover listed Chinese chip firms through the first three quarters. The Global Times attributed the earnings strength to what it called an AI explosion, a surge in demand for computing hardware that has lifted suppliers across the design, manufacturing and equipment segments.
What is driving the earnings growth?
Artificial intelligence workloads require dense clusters of processors, memory and advanced packaging. Global demand for this hardware has risen sharply since generative AI reached wide commercial deployment. Chinese suppliers have captured part of that demand despite export controls imposed by the United States on advanced chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
The Global Times did not publish a consolidated revenue or profit figure for the sector in the report. It framed the nine-month results as broad-based strength rather than gains at a single company.
How does AI demand reach Chinese suppliers?
AI infrastructure buildouts pull orders through several layers of the supply chain at once:
- Chip design houses see rising orders for compute and interface silicon.
- Foundries and packaging houses gain volume as designers secure capacity.
- Equipment and materials vendors benefit as fabs expand output.
Chinese firms occupy positions across all three layers. The country has spent years building domestic capacity in mature and mid-range process nodes, and AI demand has tightened supply in several of those categories.
What does this mean for the competitive picture?
Strong domestic earnings give Chinese semiconductor firms more capital to reinvest in capacity and technology development. That matters in a market where Washington has restricted access to leading-edge tools and where Beijing has pushed self-sufficiency through national programs and state-backed funds.
The nine-month results suggest Chinese suppliers are converting AI-driven demand into profit rather than volume alone. Earnings growth across a broad set of companies indicates pricing power in at least some product categories.
Western and Japanese toolmakers still dominate the most advanced manufacturing steps. Chinese firms lead in none of the leading-edge segments. The earnings strength therefore reflects the mature-node and mid-range portions of the market, where volume is high and where AI systems need large quantities of supporting silicon.
The Global Times report did not name individual companies or disclose specific figures. Full sector financials will appear in the consolidated filings of the listed firms covered by the report.
Sector analysts will watch whether the momentum holds into the fourth quarter, when AI infrastructure spending typically peaks on cloud provider budget cycles.
