Intel CPU Prices May Rise Up to 20%, Qualcomm 10%, as TSMC Costs Climb
Intel may raise CPU prices up to 20% and Qualcomm 10%, TrendForce reports, as climbing TSMC wafer costs push the chip supply chain into a broad repricing wave, with AMD possibly joining.

Intel plans to raise CPU prices by up to 20%, while Qualcomm is preparing a 10% increase, according to a TrendForce report — and AMD may join the wave as rising TSMC manufacturing costs push the entire supply chain toward repricing.
The TrendForce account identifies TSMC's cost escalation as the common driver. Intel and Qualcomm, both TSMC customers for key product lines, are passing higher foundry expenses downstream to OEMs and, ultimately, to end-device prices. TrendForce reports the Intel figure as up to 20%; the Qualcomm figure stands at 10%.
AMD has not confirmed a price move. TrendForce frames its possible participation as conditional — the company may join the hike wave rather than committing to one — leaving its client CPU pricing officially unchanged for now.
Why are CPU prices climbing now?
The reported hikes trace back to foundry economics. TSMC, which manufactures advanced-node silicon for fabless and IDM customers alike, has been raising wafer costs as it funds capacity expansion and advanced process development. TrendForce attributes the current wave of customer-price increases directly to those climbing manufacturing costs.
For Intel, the timing is notable. The company builds the majority of its client CPUs in its own fabs, yet its reported up-to-20% increase — the largest in the group — suggests internal cost pressures, TSMC wafer pricing on externally sourced products, or both are being folded into a single pricing action.
Qualcomm's 10% increase covers its smartphone-oriented product families, meaning the impact lands on handset makers rather than PC OEMs. A dual-front hike — PCs via Intel, phones via Qualcomm — widens the exposure of the broader electronics supply chain.
What could AMD's participation mean?
AMD's position carries the most competitive weight. If AMD follows with increases of its own, all three major client-processor suppliers would be raising prices in the same cycle, removing the option for OEMs to hedge by shifting share toward a cheaper vendor. If AMD holds pricing, it could use the gap to win designs — though TrendForce's framing indicates its cost base, anchored to TSMC wafers, points in the same direction as its rivals'.
The figures should be read as reported plans rather than confirmed list-price actions. TrendForce cites up to 20% for Intel and 10% for Qualcomm, with AMD's move still speculative.
Who pays in the end?
The immediate cost falls on OEMs, which must either absorb thinner margins or pass the increases to retail prices. For PC makers already managing soft demand, a 20% component-price increase is difficult to absorb, raising the likelihood of higher shelf prices on Intel-based systems if the reported figure holds.
On the handset side, Qualcomm's 10% increase gives phone makers a smaller but still material cost adder at a time when flagship bill-of-materials are already stretched.
TrendForce's report suggests the pricing direction is set: with TSMC's wafer costs continuing to climb and Intel's increase potentially reaching 20%, the open question is not whether prices rise but how quickly AMD decides whether to follow — a decision that will shape competitive dynamics across client CPUs through the coming cycle.
