Micron will pay roughly 700 employees in Taiwan bonuses equal to five years of salary in a single lump sum. The group represents about 17% of the more than 4,300 production-line workers at Micron Taiwan, according to Digitimes. The remaining staff will receive three separate bonuses in October.
The payment bundles three incentives into one payout. The annual performance bonus is estimated at 7.5 to 12.5 months of salary for most workers. A mass-production bonus adds 20% of annual salary. A one-time appreciation bonus of NT$1,000,000, about $31,000, will be prorated for employees who have not completed a full year of service.
What comes next for Micron workers worldwide?
Micron employees globally will also gain a new quarterly profit bonus, paid 50% in cash and 50% in stock, starting in January 2027. The first payment will be made entirely in cash. The plan links worker compensation directly to the AI-driven memory boom that delivered record orders from hyperscalers to Micron, Samsung and SK hynix, the three largest memory makers.
The payouts follow a regional pattern. Samsung and SK hynix have recently paid workers bonuses of up to $400,000. Samsung workers voted in May 2026 to accept an average bonus of $340,000. SK hynix workers are set to receive $477,000 in bonuses this year, a figure that could approach $900,000 in 2027.
Record profits from AI data center demand have pushed production-line employees to demand a share. Micron's latest offer answers part of that demand in Taiwan, but not all of it.
Why is the Taoyuan union still striking?
The Micron union at Taoyuan remains in dispute with management over pay. Some union officials staged a one-day strike calling for clearer profit-sharing arrangements and defined bonus terms. Nearly 70% of members at the Taoyuan site rejected management's latest offer. The two sides are tentatively scheduled to meet again on November 6 for further negotiations.
The situation differs at Micron Taichung. That union has already accepted a deal that includes a 10% employer contribution to worker pensions and a tripling of the day-shift allowance.
Are the bonuses sustainable?
The bonus structure serves two purposes. It lets workers capture a share of current chipmaking profits, and it keeps Micron competitive in the market for semiconductor talent against Samsung and SK hynix, both of which have loosened their own purse strings substantially this cycle.
The structure carries risk. Because the incentives depend on performance and profit metrics, they could fall sharply if AI demand weakens and the memory cycle returns to normal levels. Workers whose pay now leans heavily on bonuses would bear that downside alongside the company.
For now, the cycle remains in Micron's favor, and the November 6 talks will test whether cash payouts alone can settle the Taoyuan dispute or whether a formal profit-sharing framework becomes the price of labor peace.
