Micron Technology plans to announce a memory chip manufacturing investment in Singapore, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The report, published as a Reuters exclusive, gives no figure for the size of the investment, the process node involved, or a timeline for construction and ramp. Reuters attributes the information to unnamed sources and describes the announcement as forthcoming rather than delivered, so the deal should be treated as expected news rather than a confirmed capital commitment.
Singapore is not new ground for Micron. The company already operates a major memory assembly and test operation in the city-state, alongside a NAND flash fab it has built up over more than a decade. Any new manufacturing announcement would deepen that footprint at a moment when memory suppliers are concentrating advanced capacity in a small number of geopolitically stable locations.
The timing matters commercially. Memory pricing has been recovering, and suppliers including Micron, Samsung and SK hynix have been recalibrating where they place incremental capacity across their networks in the United States, Japan and Asia. An investment in Singapore would give Micron additional flexibility outside its US and Japan sites, spreading manufacturing risk across jurisdictions without adding exposure to China-based capacity, where Washington's export controls continue to tighten.
For Singapore, the move would reinforce its position as one of the few Southeast Asian hubs with advanced semiconductor manufacturing at scale, competing for multinational capital against incentives on offer in the US under the CHIPS Act, in Japan, and in Taiwan.
Micron has not commented publicly, and the sources did not say when the formal announcement will come. Until the company confirms the investment value, capacity target and technology involved — whether DRAM, NAND or advanced packaging — the scope of the project remains an open variable for equipment suppliers and for competitors watching how fast global memory supply grows.
