TSMC's 2nm Wafers Already Drive 8% of Revenue as Profit Jumps 68.7%
TSMC says 2-nm output already delivers eight percent of wafer revenue, helping lift quarterly profit 68.7 percent as the N2 ramp outruns earlier node transitions.

TSMC's 2-nanometer production already accounts for eight percent of the company's wafer revenue, according to a report from igor'sLAB — and that ramp helped push quarterly profit up 68.7 percent year over year.
That's a striking number. Most process nodes take several quarters to reach meaningful revenue share after volume production starts. N2, TSMC's first node built on gate-all-around nanosheet transistors, has crossed the eight-percent mark of wafer revenue in short order. The figure signals that Apple, and whoever else holds early N2 allocation, is shipping silicon in real volume — not sampling it.
The profit line matters just as much. A 68.7 percent rise in quarterly profit, as reported by igor'sLAB, points to pricing power at the leading edge. N2 wafers carry wafer prices well above what TSMC charged for N3 or N5 at equivalent maturity. When eight percent of your wafer mix sells at a premium, margins expand quickly.
What does the 8% figure actually tell us?
Wafer revenue share is a blunt instrument, but a useful one. It doesn't measure units shipped. It measures how much of TSMC's silicon-selling income flows from a given node. Eight percent from a node that entered volume production only recently means:
- N2 capacity in Fab 22 at Hsinchu and the Kaohsiung fab is filling with paid orders, not qualification lots.
- Leading-edge customers have committed to the node early, absorbing the premium pricing.
- The older, cheaper nodes that once dominated the mix — N7, N28 — are steadily shrinking as a share of revenue.
It also frames the competitive race. Samsung Foundry is ramping its own gate-all-around node, SF2, and Intel is pushing RibbonFET toward 18A. But TSMC's revenue mix is the scoreboard that customers and investors actually watch. Eight percent for N2 says the Hsinchu-based foundry has converted a new transistor architecture into billings faster than any recent node transition.
Why profit jumped 68.7 percent
The 68.7 percent quarterly profit increase, per igor'sLAB, sits at the intersection of three forces.
First, mix. Premium-priced N2 and the mature N3 family now pull revenue upward while legacy nodes fade from the blend. Second, utilization. AI accelerator demand keeps leading-edge and advanced packaging lines running hot. Third, pricing. TSMC has told customers for over a year that leading-edge wafer prices would rise with each generation — N2 is where those increases land on the income statement.
The result is leverage. Fixed costs for a new node — equipment, cleanroom, yield engineering — get absorbed early, and each additional wafer after that carries fatter contribution margins. An eight-percent N2 share suggests the absorption phase went faster than planned.
What comes next for N2 and its customers
The trajectory from here is the real question for 2026. If N2 follows the curve of previous nodes, its revenue share keeps climbing through this year as Apple's next iPhone and Mac silicon shift fully onto the node, and as Qualcomm, MediaTek and AMD take their allocated slots.
Watch two indicators in the coming quarters. One: N2's share of wafer revenue in the next earnings report — double digits would confirm the ramp is ahead of the N3 pace. Two: commentary on N2 capacity expansion at Kaohsiuchi and the second-wave Hsinchu phases, since demand from smartphone and AI customers alike appears to exceed early capacity. On the evidence of this quarter, the leading edge has rarely been more profitable for the world's largest foundry.
