Baseus has fitted a motorized spotlight to its latest security camera, a feature that follows a moving target across a property rather than simply flooding a fixed area with light. The device, announced this week, is called the Security PrimeSentinel U2 Pro Outdoor 3K Dual Camera. The name alone tells you most of the specification sheet.
The Chinese accessory maker has built its camera line around AI-assisted monitoring. Until now, the cameras have done what most of the category does: they record, they detect, and they send an alert. The U2 Pro takes a more assertive position. Its spotlight shines directly on a person as they move, which the company frames as a way to signal that detection has already occurred.
This is deterrence by illumination. A light that tracks a running figure is harder to ignore than a motion-triggered flood that fires at a fixed angle. Baseus says the focused beam also serves a second purpose: it raises the quality of video captured at night, which improves the odds that a subject can be identified from the footage.
Why tracking light matters
Night vision has always carried a trade-off. Infrared capture works in near darkness, but the resulting footage is often too grainy to support identification. Active illumination produces clearer frames, yet conventional floodlights light everything and reveal nothing in particular. A directed beam narrows the field to the subject of interest.
The company also suggests a domestic use case beyond security. The same tracking light can assist family members with after-hours activities, such as taking the dog out. One lamp, then, for burglars and beagles alike.
What we know, and what we do not
The confirmed specification from the announcement is compact:
- Product: Baseus Security PrimeSentinel U2 Pro Outdoor 3K Dual Camera
- Resolution: 3K video capture
- Optics: dual-camera design
- Key feature: motorized spotlight that tracks and follows moving targets
- Positioning: AI-assisted deterrence rather than passive recording
What Baseus has not yet disclosed in the announcement material is pricing, availability, battery capacity, storage options, or subscription terms. Those details will determine whether the tracking spotlight remains a differentiator or becomes one line item in a crowded outdoor-camera market where Nest, Ring, and Eufy already hold the shelf space.
The dual-camera arrangement suggests Baseus is following a wider industry move: one lens for a wide situational view, another for a tight, detail-rich capture. The 3K resolution figure sits above the 2K tier that dominates the mid-market and below the 4K units sold at premium prices.
A category shifting from recording to responding
The broader signal here is functional. Security cameras are drifting from passive sensors toward devices that act — projecting light, sounding alarms, or both. A spotlight that pursues a target across a lawn is a small version of that shift, and arguably a more defensible one than the novelty features that regularly appear in this segment.
Until pricing and regional availability arrive, the U2 Pro is a spec sheet with a clever lamp. If the cost lands near the mainstream tier, competitors without a tracking beam may find themselves explaining why their cameras merely watch.
