Antigravity cut the entry price of its A1 drone in half to $799 in the US. The new "Follow Me" kit replaces the original FPV goggles and motion controller with a wristwatch and a ring.
Until now, the complete A1 set cost upwards of $1,599. Buyers had to wear the company's headset to fly the aircraft. The wristwatch-and-ring pairing removes that requirement and lowers the barrier for first-time pilots.
Why the price dropped
The saving comes from hardware subtraction, not a discount on the drone itself. Antigravity removed the two most expensive control accessories from the bundle. The FPV goggles and motion controller defined the original kit. The Follow Me kit substitutes two wearables that are cheaper to build and simpler to use.
The company frames the A1 as a personal camera robot rather than a traditional flying camera. The Verge, which tested the kit, reports the concept is that the drone follows its owner and handles filming on its own.
What the A1 already does
The A1 launched last year. The Verge's Sean Hollister called it the best beginner drone he had tried. He put a friend who had never flown into its virtual cockpit without concern, a concrete measure of how far the onboard automation goes.
The drone records 360-degree footage. Pilots can reframe the shot after the flight rather than framing it in the air, an approach suited to people who prefer flying to filming. That capability carries over regardless of which controller ships in the box.
Who is the $799 kit for?
The price move positions the A1 against entry-level camera drones from established makers, which typically require a smartphone or dedicated handset. A $799 bundle with wearable control and 360-degree capture is a distinct offer at that price point. The original $1,599 goggles set remains relevant for pilots who want the immersive first-person view.
| Kit | Contents | US price |
|---|---|---|
| Original | A1, FPV goggles, motion controller | $1,599 and up |
| Follow Me | A1, wristwatch, ring | $799 |
Does wearable control change the market?
The shift from goggles to a wristwatch mirrors a broader pattern in consumer hardware. Manufacturers keep the aircraft and trim the accessories to hit lower price tiers. Antigravity is applying that logic to a drone that already aimed at beginners.
The Follow Me kit is available now in the US through the company's site. Whether the halved entry price converts curious buyers into a durable customer base will show in the next wave of rival pricing decisions.
