Enflame Nearly Quintuples AI Chip Revenue, Still Burns Cash
Enflame's Q3 revenue jumped 395% to 1.21 billion yuan, but operating cash outflow hit 2.02 billion yuan, raising questions over how long its 6.12 billion yuan IPO cash will last.

Enflame Technology grew third-quarter revenue 395% to 1.21 billion yuan ($182 million), yet the Chinese AI-chip designer still burned through more cash than ever as it scaled production of its domestic accelerators.
The Shanghai-based company, which listed on the STAR Market only last month, reported the figures in its first quarterly report as a public firm. Net loss attributable to shareholders narrowed to 121.6 million yuan in the third quarter, and revenue for the first nine months of the year rose 331.7% to 2.33 billion yuan. The numbers confirm that demand for Enflame's products is real. They also show that selling chips in volume does not yet pay for itself.
Enflame sits at the center of Beijing's effort to build domestic alternatives to cutting-edge US processors. Washington's export controls limit China's access to advanced AI chips, and companies such as Enflame are the intended substitutes. Tencent is the firm's largest shareholder, which gives the designer a deep-pocketed anchor customer and investor as it ramps.
Why does fast growth strain the balance sheet?
Chips are capital-hungry to scale, and Enflame's spending reflects that. Quarterly research and development spending rose 14.9% to 349.4 million yuan. The bigger pressure sits in working capital: operating cash outflow reached 2.02 billion yuan in the first nine months, up from 769.6 million yuan a year earlier.
Part of that outflow came from paying suppliers for raw materials sooner, or in larger amounts, than before. The mechanism is simple. A chip designer that wants more wafers and components must hand over cash to suppliers long before customers settle their own invoices. Growth accelerates both sides of that gap, and the cash leaves first.
This is why the 2.02 billion yuan outflow may matter more to investors than the 395% sales jump. For early-stage hardware companies, profits can lag sales for years, so analysts track cash burn — whether day-to-day operations generate cash or consume it — as the more honest signal of financial health.
How long does the IPO money last?
Enflame raised 6.12 billion yuan in its STAR Market initial public offering last month. That fresh capital frames the central question now facing the company: how long can it fund the production ramp before it needs to tap markets again?
The timing matters because repeat fundraising carries a cost. If Enflame returns to markets sooner than expected — through new shares, convertible bonds, or straight debt — investors typically apply a higher financing-risk discount. Existing shareholders face dilution or tougher terms on the new money.
The company's position as a high-profile, post-IPO test case for China's domestic AI-chip drive raises the stakes beyond its own share price. Its funding path could influence how investors value other loss-making Chinese chip designers working to replace restricted US chips, as Reuters noted in its coverage of the sector.
What happens next?
Enflame must show that revenue growth eventually closes the cash gap — that customer payments start arriving faster than supplier payments leave. Until that shift appears in the operating cash line, each quarter of record sales will also be a quarter of record cash consumption, and the 6.12 billion yuan IPO raise becomes the clock against which the entire ramp is measured.
