Nvidia's RTX Spark N1X processor has shipped in Windows laptops from six manufacturers, and reviewers at The Verge have collectively tested four of them — including a Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra configured with a staggering 128GB of unified memory.
That memory figure is the headline spec of the launch. The Surface Laptop Ultra, reviewed in full by The Verge's Tom Warren, carries the flagship placement of the new SoC. Sean Hollister has been testing a 64GB version of an Asus machine, part of a test pool The Verge describes as "a small fortune's worth of powerful laptops" built around the chip Nvidia calls a "superchip."
The hardware spread is broader than any single review. RTX Spark laptops announced so far include the HP OmniBook Ultra, the Asus ProArt P16 and the Lenovo Yoga 9n, alongside Microsoft's flagship. Six manufacturers in total have signed on.
What is RTX Spark, exactly?
It's an Arm-based SoC for laptops and small desktop computers. Nvidia positions it against the best silicon from Apple, Intel, AMD and Qualcomm — a direct entry into the Windows-on-Arm arena that Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series opened and that Intel and AMD now contest with their own Copilot+ parts.
The design leans on three pillars. Loads of CPU cores. Integrated Nvidia RTX Blackwell graphics. And enough power and unified memory — up to that 128GB ceiling in the Surface Laptop Ultra — to run sizable AI models locally, on the device rather than in the cloud.
That last point is the commercial hook. Local inference on large models has been memory-bound on laptops; most premium Windows machines top out well below 128GB, and Apple's MacBook Pro with M-series silicon has been the reference platform for exactly this workload. A 128GB Windows laptop with Nvidia graphics changes that equation for developers and AI-curious buyers.
Who has tested what so far?
The Verge's week-one coverage spans four of the six machines:
- Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra — the flagship placement, with 128GB of unified memory; fully reviewed by Tom Warren.
- Asus (64GB configuration) — in ongoing testing by Sean Hollister.
- HP OmniBook Ultra — part of the initial hardware pool.
- Lenovo Yoga 9n — also in the pool, alongside an Asus ProArt P16 variant of the lineup.
Collective impressions are still accumulating, and the publication frames the piece as "everything we've learned" rather than a final verdict on the platform.
Why does this launch matter commercially?
RTX Spark puts Nvidia into a market it has never directly served: the x86-and-Arm laptop CPU business, where Qualcomm struck first on Windows with Arm in 2024 and Apple sets the performance-per-watt benchmark. Nvidia brings something none of those rivals can pair on-package — its Blackwell GPU architecture and the CUDA software stack that dominates AI development.
The unified-memory approach mirrors Apple's playbook: one pool, shared by CPU and GPU, sized for models that would otherwise need discrete graphics cards with their own VRAM. At 128GB, the Surface Laptop Ultra can hold models that simply don't fit in a typical 16GB or 32GB laptop.
With six OEMs already building hardware and early reviews concentrated on the top configuration, the next pressure point is pricing and availability across the rest of the stack — and whether Nvidia's Arm debut can pull Windows laptop buyers away from Intel, AMD and Qualcomm in volume, not just in spec-sheet ceilings.
