Acer Japan will sell AMD-powered Swift Air 14 laptops from ¥195,800, about $1,200 including tax, with the top Ryzen AI 7 configuration reaching ¥212,800, roughly $1,400. The announcement on October 30 lands less than six months after the same 14-inch chassis received Intel Wildcat Lake processors, and the AMD editions command a premium of roughly 35% over the Intel base model at ¥139,800, about $890.
What is Acer shipping?
The four configurations split along two axes: processor and display. The SFA14-61M-A56Y and SFA14-61M-A76Y pair the Ryzen AI 5 330 and Ryzen AI 7 345 with a WUXGA OLED panel, and Acer is already shipping both. The SFA14-61M-A56Y/F and SFA14-61M-A76Y/F step up to a 2.8K OLED screen and go on sale November 27.
The chips themselves are precisely specified. The Ryzen AI 5 330 carries 4 cores and 8 threads with a maximum clock of 4.5GHz. The Ryzen AI 7 345 offers 6 cores and 12 threads and reaches 4.6GHz. All four models carry Copilot+ PC certification, which is now the entry ticket for premium thin-and-light machines running Windows 11 Home.
The shared platform is unremarkable but complete:
- 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD
- Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3
- USB 3.2 Type-C and HDMI output
- A 16:10 display rated at 300 nits
- A 50 Wh battery that accepts 65 W charging
The chassis weighs roughly 960 grams and measures 14.9 mm thick. That figure places the machine among the lightest 14-inch OLED laptops on the market, a distinction that Acer is effectively renting twice by cycling two processor families through one body.
How big is the performance gap?
Benchmark data cited in coverage of the launch puts the Ryzen AI 7 345 roughly 28% ahead of the Ryzen AI 5 330 in CPU tests. In GPU comparisons the gap widens beyond 80%. The numbers justify the tier split, but they also frame the commercial question: the roughly 35% price gap between the Intel base model and the Ryzen AI 7 version will test how much Japanese customers will pay for added graphics performance.
That premium is the actual story. Acer is not replacing Intel silicon; it is stacking AMD on top of it, covering price points from the entry-level Intel build to higher-margin AMD configurations within a single chassis. The practice is efficient for the manufacturer. Whether it is persuasive for the buyer depends on how the OLED panel and 960-gram weight, identical across the range, sit alongside a processor premium of several hundred dollars.
Will the AMD models leave Japan?
Acer has not confirmed international availability. The AMD editions may remain a Japanese market test, and Japan often serves that function for laptop makers gauging demand for configurations before wider release. The company has given no timeline, no regional roadmap and no pricing outside Japan.
What comes next?
The November 27 arrival of the 2.8K OLED models will complete the lineup, and their sales against the already-shipping WUXGA pairs will show which axis Japanese buyers value more: resolution or silicon. If the AMD configurations sell at the announced premiums, expect Acer to extend the pattern to other chassis and, plausibly, other markets.
