TSMC On Track for Sixth Straight Record Profit Quarter on AI Demand

TSMC is expected to post a sixth straight quarter of record profit, as AI chip demand keeps its advanced-node capacity booked and its margins at highs.

TSMC is expected to report its sixth consecutive quarter of record profit when it publishes results this week, capping a run of earnings highs that began in mid-2023. The driver, according to analysts cited by KSL News, is the sustained boom in demand for artificial intelligence hardware, which has kept the foundry's advanced-node capacity booked nearly end to end.

The expected result matters beyond TSMC's own share price. As the sole manufacturer of Nvidia's top data-center GPUs and the foundry for Apple, AMD and most other leading fabless designers, TSMC effectively functions as the supply bottleneck and the revenue mirror for the entire AI chip trade. Six record quarters in a row signal that AI accelerator orders, not smartphones, now set the pace of the company's business.

Why the profit streak keeps extending

The mechanism is straightforward. AI chips carry the highest transistor densities and therefore sell on the most advanced processes, chiefly N3 and, increasingly, N4-class nodes tuned for high-performance computing. These nodes command higher wafer prices than mature processes, and demand has exceeded supply for the past year and a half.

That mix shift lifts both revenue and margin at the same time. Each new wave of AI accelerator orders pushes more of TSMC's output toward premium wafers, which is why each successive quarter has beaten the last. Analysts expect that pattern to hold in the upcoming report.

The streak began in the second half of 2023, when generative AI spending first translated into large foundry orders, and it has not broken since. In plain terms: every quarter TSMC has reported since then has set a new company record for profit.

What it means for the supply chain

For TSMC's customers, another record quarter confirms that advanced packaging and leading-edge wafer capacity remain tight. That tightness has already pushed TSMC to expand capacity, and it supports the pricing power the foundry has exercised across its recent negotiations.

For competitors Samsung Foundry and Intel Foundry, the result underscores the gap they must close. Neither has matched TSMC's combination of yield, advanced-node volume and customer depth at the leading edge, and AI demand has so far concentrated further in TSMC's favor.

Geopolitically, the earnings strength arrives as TSMC builds fabs in Arizona, Japan and Germany, partly at government urging. Strong home-market profits fund that diversification, which in turn shapes where future AI chip capacity will physically sit.

What to watch in the numbers

The confirmed figures will come in the official release, and the expectations reported here are analyst forecasts rather than booked results. The report will show whether AI demand has sustained its momentum through the most recent quarter and whether margins held at recent highs.

If the record lands as expected, attention will shift to TSMC's outlook statement, where executives typically signal how they see capacity, pricing and AI demand trending into the next quarters.
